Tips on Research

By far the most common question I am asked about Project 2,996 is, “How do I find out about the person you’ve assigned me?”

I’m sorry to say that I’m not tied into a secret store of available research on these individuals. However, just by being involved in this project for 3 years now, I’m managed to glean a few good first steps.

  1. Use the links in the sidebar of this blog to check out the past lists, and see what others may have written about the same person.
  2. Try these sources.
  3. Go to your favorite search engine and start with a search like this:
    • 9/11 “Candace Lee Williams”

With all of these it’s important to remember two things. First, these are starting points. But in most cases they will give you links to remembrances written by others. So you may have to dig few links deep to get the kind of information you’re after.

Second, sadly, for some of the victims of 9/11 there is absolutely no information available. For people like this, you may need to create a more general tribute, but make sure they get some sort of tribute.
